Alpine Safari - Full Day |
The day commences with a minibus ride to the Waimakariri Gorge before changing vehicles for the final leg down to the waters edge. There are no roads from here, only the river. Spray jackets, hats and life jackets are issued to each passenger before boarding the famous Hamilton jet-boat for a 15 kilometre ride up one of New Zealand's major snow-fed rivers. Weave in and out of rock faces, white water rapids and high walled rock canyons, following the famous Coast to Coast triathlon course to Pig Gully. From the headwaters of the Waimakariri Gorge, board a custom built unimog for a four wheel drive journey across Mt Torless Station, a vast 10,000 acre sheep station. One of Canterbury's famous high country stations, this region is rugged and isolated and full of colourful history. Enjoy a delicious luncheon (included) at Te Kowhi Country Cafe at Springfield before continuing your journey to Arthur's Pass.
The journey home is on the TranzAlpine train, rated one of the top six train journeys in the world - numerous tunnels, viaducts, river canyons and the rainforest of the Arthur's Pass National Park make this a journey to remember.
Hotel pick ups commence from 8 am, returning approx 7 pm.
