Itinerary:

Day 1: Welcome to Auckland, the 'City of Sails' 
On arrival at the airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  You will be handed a tour pack containing everything you need for the duration of your stay.

Day 2: Auckland - Bay of Islands
Collect your rental vehicle and travel north to Paihia, the central point for the Bay of Islands. The area is of historic significance in that it is the site of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.  You might like to visit the Treaty Grounds to learn of the beginnings of our bicultural society, fraught with battles between tribes and European armies.

Day 3:  At the Bay of Islands
Discover the delights of Northland - maybe take a scenic cruise, or a full day tour to Cape Reinga

Day 4: Paihia - Matakana Coast
Cross Northland following the aqua blue waters of the Hokianga before travelling down the Kauri Coast.   Make sure you allow time to take a few short walks that are signposted as you pass through the region.  Not to be missed is the 5 minute loop to view the largest of all the trees, Tane Mahuta.  Heading back across country, the Matakohe Kauri Museum is an award winning museum which extensive displays of the regions logging, farming and social history.

Day 5: Matakana - Auckland
Drive south (1 hour) back to Auckland and drop your rental car at the airport depot before continuing your onward journey.
