Top Day Trips In The Auckland Region

August 6, 2013

Are you looking for things to do in Auckland and its surroundings to pad your travel itinerary? If you have booked a motorhome or rental car through KiwitravelNZ.com, it's incredibly easy to get around and make the most of your holiday. If you're looking to see more than just the city, check out these top day trip locations around the Auckland region:

La Cigale French Market in Parnell

La Cigale is a top spot in Parnell for families looking for something French during their stay in Auckland. It has become quite well known by Auckland locals and La Cigale should be the only place that you visit if you're looking for a croissant, pastries or organic fruits and vegetables. Check out La Cigale on Georges Bay Road between 8am and 1pm on Saturday and 9am and 2pm on Sunday every week.

Devonport

The seaside village of Devonport is a short ferry ride from downtown Auckland or an easy drive over the bridge headed toward North Shore. Known for the Devonport Stone Oven Bakery, the Navy Museum and Devonport Chocolates, it's easy to lose an afternoon here after lunch and an ideal place to hang out by the water.

Mission Bay

See a film, grab a frozen yoghurt at KiwiYo and enjoy the best fish and chips in the city by the beach from the Fish Pot Cafe, Mission Bay is a beautiful place to spend a day or evening. Popular with the locals and with visitors, there are always plenty of people keeping Mission Bay alive on any day of the week. There is nowhere better to hang out and relax with friends or family.

Matakana

North of Auckland, Matakana is a cool little rural spot to spend a day. Pick up homemade goods, fruits and vegetables from the Farmers Market in Matakana Village or check out the craftwork at Morris and James Pottery and Tileworks. Nearby Cosi Restaurant is a well-known place to grab lunch and vineyards like the Ascension Estate are a must if you love wine.

Auckland Museum Maori Culture Show

If you prefer to stay in the city but still want to experience something a little different, head along to the Auckland Museum and enjoy one of New Zealand's leading Maori Culture performances. The Auckland Museum is the only venue in the city which has daily Maori Culture shows. Watch in awe as the dancers perform our national dance - the world famous Haka. Afterwards, you will even have the opportunity to meet, talk to, and have photos with the dancers. If you would like to learn more about Maori culture, stay for the guided tour of the Maori gallery at the museum. Prices for the performance and the museum tour are $35 for adults, while children are $17.50. Under 5's are free.

Make the most of your time in Auckland and escape the city to see some of these local highlights. We've got you covered for transport at KiwitravelNZ.com - book a car or motorhome through us and make it easy to get around these top Auckland locations for the day.
