Departure Dates

Daily departures

Day 1:  Auckland to Coromandel
Just over an hour's drive from Auckland city is the picturesque Coromandel Peninsula.  From the old gold-mining town of Thames the highway takes you up the peninsula's west coast - where every sandy bay seems to have its own small settlement - to the charming town of Coromandel with its fine colonial and Victorian buildings.

Day 2:  At Coromandel
A visit to Driving Creek Railway is well worth the visit.  The line winds almost 2 km up the hill through regenerating bush to the expansive views from the ridge-top terminus.

Don't miss the craft shops along Coromandel's main street!

Day 3:  Coromandel to Tauranga
A leisurely two hour drive takes you to sunny Tauranga, home to 100kms of white sand and surf beaches.  Climb to the top of Mount Manganui for magnificent views, or take a tour across to White Island, New Zealand's live volcano.

Day 4:  Tauranga to Whakatane
The eastern Bay of Plenty is a place of endless white-sand beaches bordered by red-flowering Pohutukawa Trees in summer. Whakatane, the main centre of the region, enjoys a setting that abounds with breathtaking natural landscapes - including the iconic sight of volcanic White Island just 50 kms offshore.  Guided tours on the island are available for you to view hissing vents, bubbling mud pots and the remains of an abandoned sulphur mining factory.

Day 5:  Whakatane to Gisborne
New Zealand's easternmost city is the first in the world to see the dawn of each day - and it's also blessed with fantastic beaches, great surf and rich culture and heritage.  Away from the beaches, the hinterland is dotted with grapevines and a number of wineries offer cellar door wine-tasting or dining.

Day 6:  Gisborne to Napier
Napier is a charming seaside city where the fresh whites of Art Deco buildings contrast a blue sky.  From Marine Parade, lined with Norfolk pines, to the cafe culture of the CBD, Napier is an appealing sunny destination.  Enjoy a walking tour, visit the National Aquarium, or explore the surrounding vineyards.

Day 7:  Napier to Taupo
Taupo, on the shores of New Zealand's largest lake, is a region with a myriad of outdoor activities in an unforgettable landscape. Discover sights that will fix themselves in your memory:  220,000 litres of water per second pouring over Huka Falls, volcanic mountains jutting out of the Central Plateau and early morning sunshine sparkling on Lake Taupo.

Day 8:  Taupo to Rotorua
A one hour drive takes you to an unforgettable place where geothermal features are the backdrop for adventure activities and some of New Zealand's most accessible Maori cultural experiences.

Day 9:  At Rotorua
Leave the ordinary world behind today and explore a place where the hazards on the local golf course are bubbling mud pools. Watch a geyser erupt, pick your way around steaming hot pools, or visit one of the geothermal spa complexes for a relaxing soak or Maori massage.  Then take in one of Rotorua's many cultural experiences, from a soul-satisfying forest walk with a Maori guide to a stirring powhiri followed by dinner cooked in a traditional Maori hangi.

Day 10:  Rotorua to Auckland
Head back to Auckland to prepare for your departure from New Zealand.  We hope you have enjoyed your "Kiwi" experience.
