Day 1:  Arrive Queenstown
After your complimentary transfer to the hotel you have the rest of the day to explore this alpine resort town.  If time allows, take a steamship cruise on Lake Wakatipu to an authentic sheep station.  We recommend you book a table at the Skyline Restaurant for a six course buffet dinner while you watch the sun go down.  Your tour guide can make the reservation for you.

Day 2:  Milford Sound Nature Cruise
Today you will travel one of the worlds most scenic drives into Fiordland National Park.  One of the largest national parks in the world, Fiordland is also part of the South West New Zealand World Heritage Area in recognition of its precious status.  You will pass immense landscapes of mountains, glaciers, deep lakes and rainforest.

A highlight of your day will be the scenic flight returning you from Milford to Queenstown.

Day 3:  At Queenstown
A free day to yourselves to explore this resort area.  Your tour guide can suggest many optional activities to fill your day, from racy jet boat rides to more sedate pleasures such as a wine tour or helicopter flight with a landing in the snow.

Day 4:  Queenstown to Wanaka via Cardrona Valley
A short ride takes you to the historic gold-mining town of Arrowtown, a sweet little village on the banks of the Arrow River.  The cobbled main street is lined with little old colonial buildings, lovingly restored and now housing contemporary galleries, craft shops and clothing boutiques.

Lunch is held at a private homestead overlooking beautiful Lake Wanaka.  The afternoon then offers time for you to explore. Stroll the walkway alongside your hotel around the lake and into the town centre.

Day 5:  Wanaka to Franz Josef via Haast Pass
Passing trout-filled Lake Hawea takes you into the pristine scenery of Haast Pass in Mt Aspiring National Park.  Then it's up and over the Haast Pass through beech forests, past cascading waterfall and clear blue pools before following the Haast river out to the sea.

Day 6:  Franz Josef Glacier - Okarito Lagoon
Today you get to enjoy the beauty of this remote corner of the country, a place many Kiwis don't even get to visit.  Take a guided walk to the terminal face of the Glacier, or get right out on the ice on a helihike or glacier landing.

At Okarito Lagoon take your pick from guided kayaking or a wildlife cruise on the shallow waters of the lagoon, a feedingground of the extremely rare white heron (Kotuku).  For pure relaxation take a soak in hot pools fed by pure glacier water, under a rainforest canopy.

Day 7:  Franz Josef - Punakaiki
Discover the wild west coast of the South Island, travelling through countryside dotted with little lakes and boulder strewn rivers. There is a coffee stop in Hokitika where you will have a chance to visit Pounamu (greenstone) carvers and glass blowers.

The journey continues north to Paparoa National Park and Punakaiki, home to the Pancake Rocks, sculpted limestone sea stacks and towering cliffs.  Your accommodation at Punakaiki is a stunning spot right on the beach, perfect for a drink together to celebrate your last New Zealand sunset.

Day 8:  Punakaiki - Christchurch via Arthur's Pass
Traverse New Zealand's main divide over the stunning Canterbury High Country and cross the plains into the Garden City. Highlights will be the Otira Viaduct, a spectacular cantilevered road through towering mountains to Arthur's Pass National Park. There is a stop to stretch your legs in the beech forests then it is on to Christchurch in the late afternoon.

Day 9:  Depart Christchurch
Time for a leisurely breakfast and then a wander around the most English city outside England.  Wander through the botanical gardens, take a punt ride on the treelined Avon River, or a scenic tram ride through the streets.

Time to head home to share your experiences of Aotearoa New Zealand with family and friends.
