Daily departures

Day 1:  Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua
Travel south to Waitomo Caves for a boat ride under a galaxy of glowworms, then continue on to the geothermal centre of New Zealand.  This evening you will experience Maori culture with storytelling and waiata (song), and kai (food) steamed in an underground pit.

Day 2:  At Rotorua
This morning see roaring geysers, boiling mud pools plus Maori arts and crafts.  Visit the Agrodome for a sheep shearing and working dogs demonstration.  The afternoon is free for you to enjoy the many activities on offer.

Day 3:  Rotorua - Wellington
Skirting Lake Taupo you will cross the volcanic landscape of the Desert Road past the majestic peaks of Tongariro, Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu.  Continue across the fertile plains of the Manawatu and along the rugged Kapiti coastline to Wellington, arriving late afternoon.  Note this coach journey has limited commentary.

Day 4:  At Wellington
A morning tour of the city will

take in the Parliament Buildings, Old St Paul's Cathedral, Mt Victoria and an optional ride on the cable car.  The afternoon is free to enjoy our capital city.

Day 5:  Wellington - Picton - Christchurch
Cross Cook Strait by ferry to the Marlborough Sounds and Picton. The Coastal Pacific train skims the spectacular coastline between the Kaikoura Ranges and the Pacific.  Continue through North Canterbury sheep country to Christchurch arriving early evening.  Note the train is replaced by a coach from May - September.

Day 6:  Christchurch - Greymouth - Glaciers
Board the TranzAlpine train to cross the Southern Alps to Greymouth.   Board a coach to travel down the West Coast to the glaciers.

Day 7:  At the Glaciers
A whole day is available for optional excursions on to the glaciers, by foot or by helicopter, or for local sightseeing.

Day 8:  Glaciers - Queenstown
Today head south and inland through the Haast Pass to Lake Wanaka, before continuing on through the rugged Kawarau Gorge to Queenstown.

Day 9:  At Queenstown
Today is free to enjoy this fabulous alpine resort.   Your tour includes Skyline Gondola.  Marvel at the stunning views as you ride the steepest cable car lift in the Southern Hemisphere.

Day 10:  Queenstown - Milford Sound - Te Anau
A full day taking in the wonders of Milford Sound and Mitre Peak, enjoying lunch onboard a cruise, returning to Te Anau by evening.

Day 11:  Te Anau - Dunedin
This morning cross the Waimea Plains and over the rolling hill country of Southland and South Otago to Dunedin, the "Edinburgh of the South".  Note this day's coach has limited commentary.

Day 12:  Dunedin - Christchurch
Travel through historic Oamaru, across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch, arriving early evening.  This day's coach has limited commentary.

Day 13:  Christchurch
Your tour concludes this morning on check out.
